I Gave My First Tech Talk!

I Gave My First Tech Talk!

As a member of the development club Velocity, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to give my first technical talk about TailwindCSS at the "Coding&Coffee" event during the Summer Technical Fest 2022 at IIIT Dharwad. It was an experience that left a lasting impression on me, and in this blog, I want to share my personal perspective on the experience and how impactful it can be for both the speaker and the audience.

To provide some context, our college had zero coding/development culture, and with the pandemic coming to an end, we saw it as an opportunity to start hosting events related to web development. As someone who had always been interested in web development, I was excited to be a part of this movement and to help others gain knowledge and exposure in this field. I chose to showcase the power of TailwindCSS, which is a popular CSS framework that can make the development process faster and more efficient.

Preparing for the talk was a journey in and of itself. I wanted to make sure that I had a solid understanding of the framework and could answer any questions that the audience might have. As the event approached, I started to feel a mix of nervousness and excitement. I was nervous about getting up on stage and speaking in front of a crowd, but I was also excited to share my knowledge and help others learn something new.

When the day of the event finally arrived, I was both nervous and excited. When I got on stage, I was met with a sea of faces, some of whom I knew, but most of whom I didn't. I started by introducing myself and the topic of my talk, and as I continued to speak, I started to feel more comfortable and confident. One of the things that struck me the most was the level of engagement from the audience. They asked questions and were genuinely interested in what I had to say. This was incredibly rewarding and made me feel like I had made a difference in their learning journey.

Another thing that stood out to me was the exposure that I received as a speaker. Not only did I get the chance to share my knowledge, but I also got to network with others who were interested in the same field as me. This opened up new doors for me and helped me to build my confidence in my abilities as a developer.

Looking back, I can say that giving a technical talk was a valuable experience that I will always cherish. It allowed me to share my passion for web development, connect with like-minded individuals, and grow both personally and professionally. I would encourage anyone who is interested in speaking to give it a try. It may seem daunting at first, but the rewards are well worth it.

One of the most significant takeaways from this experience was the importance of preparation. Spending time researching and gathering information about the topic not only helped me to feel more confident in my abilities as a speaker but also allowed me to provide value to the audience. Additionally, I learned the importance of practicing and rehearsing the talk beforehand to ensure that I could deliver it smoothly and confidently.

Another important aspect of giving a technical talk is being able to connect with the audience. This requires not only sharing knowledge but also being approachable and engaging. Taking the time to understand the audience's interests and answering their questions is crucial in making the talk impactful and memorable.

In conclusion, giving a technical talk is a valuable experience that can be beneficial for both the speaker and the audience. It provides an opportunity to share knowledge, build connections, and grow both personally and professionally. It may be daunting at first, but with proper preparation and practice, anyone can be a successful technical speaker. I am grateful for the opportunity to have given my first technical talk, and I look
